Hi Kenneth, if it's a policy issue then I understand. If Sopwith can't
write the system wide high scores file it will write to a user-local one
instead, so it fails gracefully. But it would be at least nice if we could
find some way to get it to work - maybe if it could be writable by the
users group for example?

When I implemented high scores recently I tried making the Sopwith binary
setgid to the games group, but that isn't workable because Gtk+ refuses to
start for security reasons if the binary is setgid. So that's not an option
either which is a shame since it's the "traditional" mechanism used by
other games packages like NetHack.
