I tried to install devscripts-el and the same version of FLIM you have
got and it reported another error, something about missing XML end tag.
After I removed elserv, the error message disappeared.
xml.el in elserv is very old and shouldn't be put to front of load-path.
So it seems to be an elserv bug. Could you please confirm this by
removing /usr/share/emacs/site-lisp/elserv/xml.el and trying out jabber
server connection again?
