Hi Andreas, Thank you for taking the time to submit this ITS. I fully agree with the approach. I have been meaning to do a better job for this package for a long time now, but since I'm not using vera++ anymore, I have lost interest in it.
I would be happy to help in the transition. I will try to pay attention to emails related to the package until the transition is done. Is there anything I can do to help? I do have an account on salsa which was created relatively recently https://salsa.debian.org/vho Do you want me to set up the repository and upload the branches there?
