I cloned this package and I see it has a .gitattributes which tries to do line ending conversions.
I understand (and share) your dislike of these sort of configurations in .gitattributes. However, I am inclined to agree with comments of others in the discussion — requiring a Debian-specific repacked tarball to workaround this case feels antithetical to what tag2upload is trying to do in getting us closer to upstream git and less tied to tarballs. I'm not sure what benefits remain for using tag2upload if I proceed with that workaround.
For this particular upload (needed quite soon for the cmake-4 transition), I'm considering whether to just dput the changes file that I already have in front of me (which I know will work), rather than making a new orig tarball.
