Hi,In the meantime I found out some additional information: the problem seems to be due to an interaction with klipper, KDE's clipboard widget.
If in klipper, the checkbox "Selection And Clipboard: Keep the selection and clipboard the same" is checked, the problem happens.
If that box is *not* checked, the problem does not happen. Unfortunately, a different bug in thunderbird needs that box to be checked :-(
