The current builds of Mono include two alternative garbage collectors: - - SGen garbage collector - - Boehm's garbage collector SGen garbage collector is built for all supported architectures, and is the default one. Boehm's garbage collector is not built for the full set of supported architectures. Since I don’t see the point in including two garbage collectors, I plan on removing the non-default one: Boehm's garbage collector. The plan is to drop these binary packages: - - mono-runtime-boehm - - libmonoboehm-2.0-1 - - libmonoboehm-2.0-1-dbg - - libmonoboehm-2.0-dev Then, to reduce further the number of binary packages, the following ones are going to be merged: - - mono-runtime + mono-runtime-sgen - - libmono-2.0-1 + libmonosgen-2.0-1 - - libmono-2.0-dev + libmonosgen-2.0-dev Finally, to avoid confusion, the following package is going to be renamed: - - libmonosgen-2.0-1-dbg → libmono-2.0-1-dbg If, for some reason, someone in Debian is strongly against this garbage collector removal, please post about it soon.
