Thank you for the suggestions. I've applied most of these to the xpopple man pages upstream, so they'll appear in the Debian xpdf package when it's next updated. I've also fixed some other similar issues that I spotted at the same time, so the xpopple man pages now look much better when formatted as PDF - as they should for a PDF viewer!
