Agree with the above - helge sent me some exim config files and a .procmailrc, but, i still cannot reproduce the original issue. My test wont be an exact replica, and i may well not be doing something right, but as far as i can tell, "exim + procmail + smarthost + logcheck" works (i got some SMTP rejections from the smarthost, so i think it tried to send OK and got - as expected - rejected). All i see is the issue in https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=1106030 so hopefully the workaround for that fixes this
