we can narrow down even more the versions of OK and FAIL's? > The dmesg output of the last successful boot using -26 is: > > [ 0.000000] microcode: microcode updated early to revision 0x26, date > = It would be actually good if we have as well log from the first failing one. The mentioned netconsole is a possiblity to get that, or at least an attempt to do it. Do you have another device so that you could use the netconsole approach to log over the network to this secondary device? https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/latest/networking/netconsole.html#netconsole You will need to pass it as parameter to the kernel (you can do that in advance from a working kernel by expanding GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX for the grub config, update grub config, then reboot into the "failing" kernel. I agree it's not always the easist thing to implement. Here some input which might help. Create a /etc/default/grub.d/netconsole.cfg with GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="$GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX netconsole=+@sourceip/interfacename,@targetip/aa:bb:cc:dd:ee:ff" chosing the source ip from your client, the interface name on which you configure the ip, the target ip your other device in the network and the MAC address. Now run update-grub2 to update the grub configuration. Btw, make sure you have not the quiet kernel parameter set, otherwise rmeove it as well (either manually on booting the entry or check the GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT setting in /etc/default/grub (on changes run update-grub2). On the target system either use nc -u -l -p 6666 or socat udp-recv:6666 - to start listening on UDP port 6666 before you boot the problematic client. Regards, Salvatore
