For bug 528200 (which I had reported), this does not really apply to 7zip: The issue was that all the filenames to archive were output, which could generate a lot of output and make the command slower. 7z from 7zip does not do that, thus it is fine for me. But bug 528200 was merged with 346463, for which the request was different: "please provide a quiet version which writes absolutely nothing to stdout (and stderr) if everything is OK".
