Hi,

I am having a similar problem. I started having it over the weekend. Then I ran an apt-get dist-upgrade, and still had the problem. (At the time I thought the upgrade induced it but then I remembered it was happening before the upgrade too. But before the upgrade I hadn't checked the logs to see the error message: I just knew that logins were hanging, which I think is because it was looking for NFS directories in my path.) My mount version is mount/testing uptodate 2.12r-8. (This is the version that worked for the other reporter.)
Kernel: 2.6.12-1-686
libblkid1/testing upgradeable from 1.38+1.39-WIP-2005.12.31-1 to 1.39-1 (I tried on both 1.39-1 and the older version and it was broken both times.)
libc6/testing uptodate 2.3.6-13
libuuid1/testing uptodate 1.39-1

When I went home last night it was definitely broken but this morning it appears to be working. As far as I know nothing has changed on the client. I did send a tech support request to the server guys so they might have done something to the server.

I tried to send a bug report via google groups, but I'm not sure if that was the right place to send it. This email supersedes that bug report.

Stefanie
