Package: rootstrap Version: 0.3.22-1 Severity: normal Hi Mattia,
/lib/tls seems to be a problem under user-mode-linux. I couldn't find any really good documentation about this issue causing crashes without useful error messages, debugging info etc. but http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=265486 might help. I experienced this myself with aptitude crashing during startup. Since this strikes the uml users from time to time, it would be good, if rootstrap could create a 'tls-free' image. The best fix would be in glibc itself: autodetection of uml resulting in disabling tls. The usual advice is mv /lib/tls /lib/tls.disabled but I consider this as extremely update unfriendly/unsafe. So I created a local package (libc6-disable-tls) that diverts /lib/tls/* to /lib/tls.disabled/* which is update-safe. What would be the best way to integrate this into rootstrap? Would such a package (libc6-disable-tls) have a chance to be accepted by debian, so rootstrap could just recommend to install it during or after debootstrap?
