Dear maintainers, currently, microhttpd (used for automatically testing wget2 during build) is setup with IPv4 sockets. This test suite setup fails on IPv6-only hosts [1]. In a private discussion with Andreas and Paul (both are on CC), we agreed that disabling the test suite on IPv6-only hosts is not an ideal solution but the only way to currently let wget2 migrate to Debian testing (trixie) again because we regard it not as a regression since the test suite has not been run before during builds on Debian buildd servers [2].
Therefore, I have chosen not to tag this ticket with "patch" although an "intermediate" patch is attached. Once the test suite runs on IPv6-only hosts too, this work-around could be removed again. Moreover, the test suite is perfectly running locally (tested on amd64 and arm64) as well as on Salsa CI thanks to Andreas.
Anyway, I have opened a ticket upstream to discuss this issue there [3].Please be aware that my proposed patch only applies smoothly if the patch for bug ticket #1089154 [4] (enabling bzip2 support again) has been applied before. It is because of adding the option --with-bzip2 to configure.
