That's why we have a policy document, to say what they need to do and how they can do it. If you want your modules to be byte-compiled you need to use either dh_pycentral or dh_pysupport. Then, you will always have to use dh_python to generate the right dependencies/provides/Python-Version field. What is slowing our progress is the refusal to let the time decide between python-central and/or python-support. There's no consensus here and if you need to make a choice, your only possibility is to request the technical committee to make a choice. And the technical committee needs time as well.
