IMO the bug is in /usr/share/file/magic.mime from libmagic1 near line
272/273:

0 regex BEGIN[[:space:]]*[{] application/x-awk
and this leads to the mentioned error message (just run 'php --version'
and there the file, where the bug is caused is mentioned too).
I retitled this bug and assigned it to libmagic1.
