Dear Maintainer, on my laptops, in Gnome, there is no sound output through the HDMI cable. I am connecting to a large whiteboard screen of the brand "Smart" with a good- quality, known-to-work HDMI cable. In the sound settings, I can select HDMI as an Output Device, and I can see the level monitor moving (indicating there is a sound signal produced), but no sound is heard on the board. The problem occurs: * On my up-to-date, clean-install Debian 12 gnome * Upon booting the debian-live-12.5.0-amd64-gnome.iso live image The problem does NOT occur: * Upon booting the debian-live-12.5.0-amd64-kde.iso * Upon booting ubuntu-22.04.4-desktop-amd64.iso The above is true on both my laptops: one Dell Latitude 7280 and one Lenovo Thinkpad X260 (same cable, same external screen). The options available in alsamixer and pavucontrol are exactly the same in both Debian 12 Gnome and KDE.
