Package: smokeping Version: 2.7.3-2 Followup-For: Bug #996824 Uhh, it's not just DNS being unavailable that's the problem (that's a local network configuration problem) but rather some DNS names being unresolvable on account of an upstream network problem (eg. waiting for my connection to my ISP to establish).
The problem I'd like to solve is that I can't monitor my perfectly reachable LAN hosts if one or more WAN hosts are unreachable/unresolvable. -- System Information: Debian Release: 12.5 APT prefers stable-updates APT policy: (500, 'stable-updates'), (500, 'stable-security'), (500, 'oldstable-updates'), (500, 'oldstable-security'), (500, 'oldoldstable-updates'), (500, 'oldoldstable-debug'), (500, 'oldoldstable'), (500, 'stable'), (500, 'oldstable'), (490, 'testing'), (400, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Foreign Architectures: i386 Kernel: Linux 6.1.0-21-amd64 (SMP w/4 CPU threads; PREEMPT) Locale: LANG=en_AU.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_AU.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8), LANGUAGE=en_AU:en Shell: /bin/sh linked to /usr/bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) LSM: AppArmor: enabled Versions of packages smokeping depends on: ii adduser 3.134 ii debianutils 5.7-0.5~deb12u1 ii exim4-daemon-light [mail-transport-agent] 4.96-15+deb12u4 ii fping 5.1-1 ii init-system-helpers 1.65.2 pn libcgi-fast-perl <none> pn libconfig-grammar-perl <none> ii libdigest-hmac-perl 1.04+dfsg-2 pn libjs-cropper <none> pn libjs-prototype <none> pn libjs-scriptaculous <none> pn librrds-perl <none> pn libsnmp-session-perl <none> ii liburi-perl 5.17-1 ii libwww-perl 6.68-1 ii lsb-base 11.6 ii perl 5.36.0-7+deb12u1 ii sysvinit-utils [lsb-base] 3.06-4 ii ucf 3.0043+nmu1 Versions of packages smokeping recommends: pn apache2 | apache2 | httpd <none> pn apache2 | httpd-cgi <none> ii bind9-dnsutils [dnsutils] 1:9.18.24-1 ii dnsutils 1:9.18.24-1 pn echoping <none> ii libsocket6-perl 0.29-3 Versions of packages smokeping suggests: ii curl 7.88.1-10+deb12u5 pn libauthen-radius-perl <none> pn libinfluxdb-lineprotocol-perl <none> ii libio-pty-perl 1:1.17-1 ii libio-socket-ssl-perl 2.081-2 pn libnet-dns-perl <none> pn libnet-ldap-perl <none> pn libnet-openssh-perl <none> pn libnet-telnet-perl <none> pn libobject-result-perl <none> ii libpath-tiny-perl 0.144-1 ii openssh-client 1:9.2p1-2+deb12u2 -MD -- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Michael Deegan Hugaholic https://www.deegan.id.au/ ------------------------ Jung, zr jbeel? ----------------------------------
