Package: synaptic Version: 0.53.4-6 Severity: minor
Currently synaptic depends upon the package gksu, which due to a misfeature requires sudo. Since sudo is not appropriate for the majority of single user or single admin machines, synaptic should not require sudo. Coming from another perspective: sudo is not a standard unix component, and synaptic does not require sudo in order to operate, therefore the package should not depend upon gksu because it works without it. gksu should probably be relegated to suggests or recommends. -- System Information: Debian Release: 3.1 APT prefers testing APT policy: (990, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.10-jsr Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C (charmap=ANSI_X3.4-1968) Versions of packages synaptic depends on: ii apt [libapt-pkg-libc6.3- 0.5.28.1 Advanced front-end for dpkg ii gksu 1.2.2-1 graphical frontend to su ii libatk1.0-0 1.8.0-4 The ATK accessibility toolkit ii libc6 2.3.2.ds1-20 GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii libfontconfig1 2.2.3-4 generic font configuration library ii libfreetype6 2.1.7-2.3 FreeType 2 font engine, shared lib ii libgcc1 1:3.4.3-6 GCC support library ii libglade2-0 1:2.4.2-1 library to load .glade files at ru ii libglib2.0-0 2.6.2-1 The GLib library of C routines ii libgtk2.0-0 2.6.2-3 The GTK+ graphical user interface ii libice6 4.3.0.dfsg.1-10 Inter-Client Exchange library ii libncurses5 5.4-4 Shared libraries for terminal hand ii libpango1.0-0 1.8.0-3 Layout and rendering of internatio ii libsm6 4.3.0.dfsg.1-10 X Window System Session Management ii libstdc++5 1:3.3.5-8 The GNU Standard C++ Library v3 ii libvte4 1:0.11.11-5 Terminal emulator widget for GTK+ ii libx11-6 4.3.0.dfsg.1-10 X Window System protocol client li ii libxft2 2.1.2-6 FreeType-based font drawing librar ii libxml2 2.6.16-2 GNOME XML library ii libxrender1 0.8.3-7 X Rendering Extension client libra ii scrollkeeper 0.3.14-9.1 A free electronic cataloging syste ii xlibs 4.3.0.dfsg.1-10 X Keyboard Extension (XKB) configu ii zlib1g 1:1.2.2-3 compression library - runtime -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
