Package: ftp.debian.org Severity: normal "Closes:" entries in the changelogs of uploads to stable security updates "should" generate a mail to the BTS closing bugs. I do not know the details about how this used to work, but looking at a few old bugs shows it used to work correctly. For example, 342619 was closed "immediately" after the inclusion of the fixing package in stable security updates. Another interesting example is #361919, against exim4 again, which got two mails from katie, one on the inclusion in stable-security, and one on the inclusion in stable. This is more spammy, but it's better than waiting until point releases to close bugs. I don't know if waiting until point releases to fix bugs is the current situation. It seems to have been the case partially for r2, but some things seem to have broken since. About the current situation, you can check mozilla-firefox as an example. Before r2, for example with 1.0.4-2sarge5 closing (again) #327452, things look OK. The mail which closed the bug was sent on 2006-03-30 (over 6 monthes after the package was built, but it looks like it *did* take all that time before it was accepted). But with -2sarge6, which Closes: 363935, the bug had to be closed manually on 2006-05-01, when DSA-1044 was published on 2006-04-26. Same thing for mysql-dfsg-4.1 with DSA-1073 (2006-05-22) and for quagga with DSA-1059 (2006-05-19). I hope these last two aren't related to the issues with murphy, but I don't think.
