In particular, existing files causing sucessful access like:
/iraf/bin/ds9 /home/iraf/src/saods9/lib/tk8.4/pkgIndex.tcl There's a clone call there, which I don't think strace is following; please try with strace -f or whatever is necessary to log its syscalls too. /dev/imt1[io] should not be necessary for iraf/ds9 interaction (but might still be used for other programs).
