I tried reproducing it at the time, - nope, it wasn't just a "missing" compiler, it was something else down the line in wafsamba. We had local patches for libraries (tdb/talloc/tevent) to make wafsamba work on kfreebsd, but the same approach didn't work for samba itself, don't remember the details anymore. Whatever it was, I can't verify it anymore - kfreebsd doesn't exist, at least within the debian infrastructure, and I'm not worried about this aspect enough to find out how to install and run a kfreebsd machine. /mjt
