stupid bts, i did not get the previous mail. sure does shutdown_lifetime influence the delay. however, this is not the root cause. squid should close any helper programs as soon as the last client connection dies off instead of handling the helpers like client connections themselves. however, it doesn't. i figure this is an upstream bug.
