But that may not address lost feeling of bug reporter. I am thinking to update: The locales-all package comes with all locale data pre-compiled but doesn't creating "/etc/default/locale". with: The locales-all package comes with pre-compiled locale data for all locale data. Since it doesn't create "/etc/default/locale", you may still need to install the locales package, too. <tip> The locales package of some Debian derivative distributions come with pre- compiled locale data for all locale data. You need to install both locales and locales-all packages on Debian to emulate such system environment. I am intensionally vague not to specify Ubuntu here. Osamu
