Package: mailutils-pop3d Version: 1:0.6.1-4sarge2 Severity: important
Here is an example: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ telnet pop3.shuttle.de 110 Trying XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX... Connected to pop3.example.com. Escape character is '^]'. +OK POP3 Ready <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> user testuser +OK pass xxxxxx +OK opened mailbox for testuser list +OK . quit -ERR Some deleted messages not removed Connection closed by foreign host. [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ In that case the file /var/mail/testuser does not exist and the daemon opens /dev/null: May 18 11:59:17 pop3 gnu-pop3d[21185]: Incoming connection opened May 18 11:59:17 pop3 gnu-pop3d[21185]: connect from XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX May 18 11:59:22 pop3 gnu-pop3d[21185]: User `testuser' logged in with mailbox `/dev/null' (0 messages) May 18 11:59:28 pop3 gnu-pop3d[21185]: Session ended for user: testuser But when closing /dev/null it seems to get confused and sends the above error-message to the client. Needless to say that this confuses the user behind the client ;-) If it exists and is empty, no error is displayed. -- System Information: Debian Release: 3.1 Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.8-3-686-smp Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Versions of packages mailutils-pop3d depends on: ii libc6 2.3.2.ds1-22sarge3 GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii libcomerr2 1.37-2sarge1 common error description library ii libgcrypt11 1.2.0-11.1 LGPL Crypto library - runtime libr ii libgdbm3 1.8.3-2 GNU dbm database routines (runtime ii libgnutls11 1.0.16-13.2 GNU TLS library - runtime library ii libgpg-error0 1.0-1 library for common error values an ii libgsasl7 0.2.5-1 GNU SASL library ii libidn11 0.5.13-1.0 GNU libidn library, implementation ii libkrb53 1.3.6-2sarge2 MIT Kerberos runtime libraries ii libmailutils0 1:0.6.1-4sarge2 GNU Mail abstraction library ii libmysqlclient12 4.0.24-10sarge1 mysql database client library ii libpam0g 0.76-22 Pluggable Authentication Modules l ii libtasn1-2 0.2.10-3sarge1 Manage ASN.1 structures (runtime) ii netbase 4.21 Basic TCP/IP networking system ii zlib1g 1:1.2.2-4.sarge.2 compression library - runtime -- no debconf information -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe".
