Sorry. I've been trying to figure out what kernel package I'm supposed
to use to run Linux v2.6 on a Pentium I, which is what the NFS server
in question is. Do you have any idea about that?

I should mention that the NFS client was running Linux v2.6, although I
don't see why that should matter; presumably the NFS wire protocol is
still the same.

I have some recollection about seeing it mentioned in the documentation
somewhere that exporting root filesystems might be a problem, because
of something about the device ID. I can't find that now; I suspect it
was in an earlier version of the NFS packages.

As soon as I manage to get Linux v2.6 running on the server, I'll try
all four permutations of 2.4/2.6 on the client and server and see what
happens.
