Dear Maintainer, I started formatting an external HDD using the GNOME Disks utility. I selected the 'overwrite' option since I was formatting it as an encrypted LUKS partition with a BTRFS filesystem inside, and I wanted the whole partition filled with random data to avoid leaking information. The operation started, a small animated wheel was shown next to the HDD in the list of disks to show that the operation was ongoing, but no other progress information or even information about what exactly the operation was doing was shown. I expected at least some sort of progress bar - it would have been nice to have since the operation ended up taking more than 22 hours. I looked around in the D-Bus interface for UDisks2 and found an object corresponding to the ongoing operation, named /org/freedesktop/UDisks2/jobs/24. It had an interface named org.freedesktop.UDisks2.Job that had properties named Progress and ExpectedEndTime, among others, that could be used to construct a progress meter. GNOME Disks should use those properties to display progress information to the user. -- System Information: Debian Release: 11.5 APT prefers stable-updates APT policy: (500, 'stable-updates'), (500, 'stable-security'), (500, 'stable') Architecture: amd64 (x86_64) Foreign Architectures: i386 Kernel: Linux 5.10.0-19-amd64 (SMP w/4 CPU threads) Kernel taint flags: TAINT_WARN Locale: LANG=en_GB.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_GB.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8), LANGUAGE=en_GB:en Shell: /bin/sh linked to /usr/bin/dash Init: systemd (via /run/systemd/system) LSM: AppArmor: enabled Versions of packages gnome-disk-utility depends on: ii dconf-gsettings-backend [gsettings-backend] 0.38.0-2 ii libatk1.0-0 2.36.0-2 ii libc6 2.33-1 ii libcairo2 1.16.0-5 ii libcanberra-gtk3-0 0.30-7 ii libdvdread8 6.1.1-2 ii libgdk-pixbuf-2.0-0 2.42.2+dfsg-1+deb11u1 ii libglib2.0-0 2.70.2-1 ii libgtk-3-0 3.24.24-4+deb11u2 ii liblzma5 5.2.5-2.1~deb11u1 ii libnotify4 0.7.9-3 ii libpango-1.0-0 1.48.10+ds1-1 ii libpangocairo-1.0-0 1.48.10+ds1-1 ii libpwquality1 1.4.4-1 ii libsecret-1-0 0.20.4-2 ii libsystemd0 247.3-7+deb11u1 ii libudisks2-0 2.9.2-2+deb11u1 ii udisks2 2.9.2-2+deb11u1 gnome-disk-utility recommends no packages. gnome-disk-utility suggests no packages. -- no debconf information
