I tried to rebuild fontconfig-2.3.2 without stripping debug symbols and the
missing symbol is
definitely referenced from there:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/fontconfig$ nm -g test/usr/lib/libfontconfig.so.1 | grep
iconv_open
U iconv_open@@GLIBC_2.1
