Dear Maintainer,

opening a window (like a dialogue or the inventory) while the program tries to
automatically open another one leads to a freeze.
Neither the automatically opened window nor the main one can be interacted with
and the program needs to be killed, losing progress.

To replicate the problem, open any sort of window while another one is being
opened, for example starting a new game and immediately pressing "i" to open
the inventory while the game tries to present the religious information.
During gameplay this happens most often while trying to pick something up too
fast, while the game is presenting the item window for piles of 2-4 items.

The expected outcome is, that the automatically opened window can be interacted
with, most importantly closed, no matter what the user does in the meantime. It
should be possible for more than one window to exist at the same time.
