The 'multicore' package for R was an early extension (during 2009 to 2011) to support process-parallel work. Its key parts (especially those that matter for us on Linux) were replaced / rewritten many years ago by package 'parallel' which is a part of base R and installed with every R installation. Consequently 'multicore' had a final transition release in 2014 but has itself been removed from CRAN for several years. We have kept 'r-cran-multicore' around for some time but it is time to let it go now. I updated my own two reverse dependencies 'r-cran-dosnow' and 'r-cran-domc', and filed #1002512 to have package 'r-other-mott-happy.hbrem' updated too.
