Package: firefox-esr

Version: 78.13.0esr-1~deb11u1
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

   * What led up to the situation?

Install firefox-esr, remove any old profiles, start the program,
and click in the URL bar. Advertisements for several non-free
online platforms are displayed.

These cannot (apparently) be removed by accessing settings, at
least easily (see below).

   * What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
     ineffective)?

Pressing the arrow keys to select any of the advertised sites,
and pressing delete and/or shift-delete do nothing.

Disabling Amazon in the search engines also failed to remove its
advertisement (though it did indeed remove it as an enabled search
engine).

   * What was the outcome of this action?

Debian is advertising non-free and non-freedom respecting services.

   * What outcome did you expect instead?

No such advertisements. At a minimum, the ability to remove/preset
these sites, in particular in an automated fashion when deploying to
many machines.

If desired, I can provide the patch to remove these advertisements,
or, if we can agree on such a list, a replacement set of websites to
show.

- Antonio
