Wow, bingo. By installing xdg-desktop-portal-gtk, problem solved. So please make evolution recommends xdg-desktop-portal-gtk (which pulls in xdg- desktop-portal).
This is a low risk fix. I think other similar packages needs dependency adjustment. I didn't need to use experimental to get my concern addressed. Osamu
