Thanks for the backtrace and the additional info. The strange thing is that I can't reproduce the problem here. I added cs_CZ locales to my system and run synaptic with LC_COLLATE=cs_CZ (and then LANG=cs_CZ) and it dosn't crash (up-to-date sid system).
