Package: linux-image-2.6.16-1-686 Version: 2.6.16-7 Followup-For: Bug #363032
On my system this bug (at least I think it is this bug) makes this kernel version unbootable, as it fails to load ide_disk and so appears to be unable to access the hard disk. I get the following sequence of errors (once the system is fully up, / lives on hdb1) and then get a dash shell from where it seems I can do very little. via82cxxx: disagrees about version of symbol struct_module insmod: error inserting module '/lib/modules/2.6.16-1-686/kernel/drivers/ide/pci/via82cxxx.ko': -1 invalid module format generic: disagrees about version of symbol struct_module insmod: error inserting module '/lib/modules/2.6.16-1-686/kernel/drivers/ide/pci/generic.ko': -1 invalid module format ide_disk: disagrees about version of symbol struct_module insmod: error inserting module '/lib/modules/2.6.16-1-686/kernel/drivers/ide/pci/ide-disk.ko': -1 invalid module format /bin/cat: /sys/block/hdb/dev: No such file or directory Waiting 1 seconds for /sys/block/hdb/dev to show up /bin/cat: /sys/block/hdb/dev: No such file or directory Waiting 2 seconds for /sys/block/hdb/dev to show up /bin/cat: /sys/block/hdb/dev: No such file or directory Waiting 4 seconds for /sys/block/hdb/dev to show up /bin/cat: /sys/block/hdb/dev: No such file or directory Waiting 8 seconds for /sys/block/hdb/dev to show up /bin/cat: /sys/block/hdb/dev: No such file or directory Waiting 16 seconds for /sys/block/hdb/dev to show up Device /sys/block/hdb/dev seems to be down. Debugging oportunity, type ^D to continue. /bin/dash: can't access tty; job control turned off # (There were other modules that failed before those, that is the final screenfull, which I made a note of.)
