The latest xsreensaver is broken, failing to start on a system where it was configured to start without the systemd unit. Z Dec20 0:00 [xscreensaver] <defunct> FWFW, I have "always" been running xscreensaver from a script in /etc/X11/Xsession.d/ with automatic activation on suspend controlled by some power manager application. This has worked fine both before and after switching to systemd. Masking the unnecessary systemd unit fixes the issue for me. This should probably be the default as long as there is no way to do systemd integration without breaking existing configurations.
