The --defaults option does not appear to look in $HOME/.local/share/pandoc/ it also does not appear to look into $XDG_DATA_HOME/pandoc/ to look for the file mentioned in this option. $ export XDG_DATA_HOME=$HOME/.local/share $ pandoc -d options report.md pandoc: options.yaml: openBinaryFile: does not exist (No such file or directory) (This is in spite of the fact that $HOME/.local/share/pandoc/options.yaml exists.) The man page mentions these two locations.
