the debian-package seems to be broken. I've found a port in FreeBSD ports,
and after the build-process and installation of all dependencies I ran
into the
same problems. But I could open a profiles menu (that is available in the
debian-package as well)

$ kcemu -P

I've found there is no working profile in the Debian package. In FreeBSD
ports
installation the Emulator can start with the VCS80 profile. But even
after loading
the preset ROM-file there is no Output on the emulated LCD-Display. So
there is
no way to see if the emulator is actually running. On any other profile
the result
is the same as described in the cited bug report.

The directory given by option "-d" should be the directory of the kcemu
installation. That is not the "roms" directory but it's parent directory:

/usr/share/kcemu

Any other directory that doesn't contain a kcemu installation must fail.

Unresolved remains the error:

> "can't open file '/usr/share/kcemu/roms/kc85/'"

And other "can't open file '/usr/share/kcemu/roms" errors
when starting kcemu with any given profile in debian. Creating
custom profiles with given ROM-images and full path could not
resolve the issue.

I tried to install kcemu in three different environments so far:

 - Kali Linux (the debian package)

 - Arch Linux (build from source)

 - FreeBSD (ports package build from source)

Only the FreeBSD port is able to start an emulator environment.
But without any emulator output.

It seems that kcemu in it's current state is not working with any
system configuration that is up to date in 2020. I might test it
with older systems, when I find some time.
