i checked this in devuan (it lacks of systemd) and does work..but not on debian
root@venenux:~# service courier-imap-ssl status ● courier-imap-ssl.service - LSB: Courier IMAP server (TLS) Loaded: loaded (/etc/init.d/courier-imap-ssl; generated) Active: active (exited) since Mon 2020-10-05 15:28:47 VET; 34s ago it said "active" but (exited) seems, premature received success of lauch .. i guess cos there's no such good control of pid file if process broke: based on https://sourceforge.net/p/courier/mailman/message/35056163/ seems systemd cannot handle that! maybe that's why by the sysv script does work! again systemd problem related Lenz McKAY Gerardo (PICCORO) http://qgqlochekone.blogspot.com
