I am indeed using Ubuntu but the Debian version has only one minor difference from the Ubuntu version, and I confirmed that it has the same problem. The patch I supplied was made on top of the Debian repo at https://salsa.debian.org/onlyjob/freespace2.git[1] Regarding the package not existing, it was my mistake: I should have filed it against freespace2. The -data-gog package is meant to be created locally by the user. I'll file the bug again.
