cdparanoia of course has no "burden" of an upstram because there is
no upstream activity since 5 years...

Looking at Debian bug lists verifies that ~ 45% of all bugs are caused by
the patches applied by Debian and another ~ 45% are caused by Linux Kernel
bugs.

The kernel problems only may be avoided by using other OS (FreeBSD, Solaris or
any other OS where the problems of users are taken seriously).

The burden coming from Debian maintainers that apply counter-produtive patches
seems to be something for that I cannot provide no solution. But you are
of course always free to use an unmodified original source to compile your
software. For cdrtools, you get this at:

ftp://ftp.berlios.de/pub/cdrecord/alpha/

I hope that Debian maintainers would first check binaries from original
unmodified sources (soon after a bug report appears). In case that the
problem is caused by a patch that comes from Debian, the patch should be
removed (this would remove _all_ non Debian-packaging related patches
soon). In case that the problem is caused by the Linux kernel I would expect
help from Debian maintainers against the unwillingness of the Linux Kernel
maintainers and in case of a rare bug in the original software, I would expect
cooperation from the Debian maintainers....

You do not need to point me to the recent problems of the Debian legal
management and I did already realize that you seem to be involved in these
problems.

I encourage you to read my comment at the end of this discussion (from Wed,

prejudice.
