A few question on the conditions under which this happened:

* Do you happen to know from approximately which size to which size you
  resized the window?

* In which terminal emulator did this happen?

* What applications were running inside the screen session when it
crashed. Any TUI fullscreen programs like htop, ncdu, mutt, mc, vim,
  emacs, etc.?

I assume the resizing and this dialog happened while the session was
attached to the resized terminal.

That's very well known to me, yes. ;-) So do I.

I can imagine. Never saw such a dialog either.

And unfortunately I wasn't able to reproduce it so far. I tried to
reproduce it by taking an uxterm, starting a screen session in it and
resizing the width to as wide as I can (about 850
characters width is the widest terminal I can get onto my three
screens) and then moving parts of the window out of the view port
resizing further.

At some point, screen told me in the status line: "Window width too
large. Truncated to 1000." Outside the screen session the terminal
reported a width of 1479 columns.

So I can't really reproduce this at the moment.

See my questions above to try to figure out under which conditions
this might happen. (Feel free to directly remove the moreinfo tag when
trying to answer my questions above.)

                Regards, Axel
