also seems sensible to me. people had three years then, and two releases to act 
*and*
the fix is trivial.

(and it's the other way round: you drop the transitional package (which you 
implicitly
declared you would do by creating it) eventually, with 3 years warning, and that
makes the remaining packages RC buggy :)
