Hm, you can invoce the script with "debugperl -Dtls /usr/bin/texdoctk", but that's probably more output than you want. > - is there some type of indexing command that needs to be run? No, that's not needed. I am sure that something is amiss on your system, or in the way texdoctk interacts with ("innocent") system settings, and so it is worth debugging this. On the other hand, I suggest that we wait until you update your tetex installation to testing or unstable and try again.
