No, I don't think so.  According to the kpathsea documentation, the
files should be found, anyway.

And the funny thing is that they are now.  The problem has vanished.  It
might be connected with the update of tetex-bin that I just made on the
sid box.

Therefore, unless I missed something important, I think we can simply
close the bug, sorry for the noise.
