Certainly (and silly that I didn't think of that when I did the patch).

It is however unlikely that such change find its way into stable Debian, 
and for testing/unstable debian it is quite likely that the package will 
get removed instead of improved due to the lack of upstream maintenance.

Good that you found a working alternative.  And now it is on record, for
