Gnome uses for example this specification for menu files (located in $XDG_CONFIG_HOME/menus). > > the latest revision of the XDG specification appears to be from 2004. > maybe it is a standard that did not catch on, and should be discarded? > or perhaps someone needs to tell the kde and gnome guys to get their > act together and follow the spec? Maybe they're working on it ? I don't use gnome nor kde so I can't help you there. > > if XDG is how things should be, i'm cool with that, but i think that > this specification needlessly flies in the face of 30 years of UNIX > config file naming conventions. I don't think xfce will break their intent of following the specifications from Freedesktop.org. Location of config files are documented so I really don't see the problem. If you need to access config files from a .xfce4, maybe a symlink from .config/xfce4 to .xfce4 could help you ?
