The SOVERSION revision in 3.1.5rc1 was an error; its not bumping the soversion until the 4.x releas, expected Q2 this year. I am postponing any changes on pmix until then as reverting (renaming libpmix3->libpmix2) for a minor bugfix release in the interim seems suboptimal.
