Yo! I was hitting the '/etc/environment not read' problem and found this bug report.
(i) I use kde from backports.org, so I don't know about the current state in kde/sid. (ii) is #242641 really about the order of entries in kdm or should I file a separate bug report? (iii) The obvious item on this list: are you going to do anything about it? I strongly suspect that the upstream tag is not appropriate for this issue, but I'll not remove the tag because the bug title speaks about something completely different.
