So the temporary solution I found here:

which is:
-edit your .ppd file, changing each? occurence of word "Custom" to
"Other", and save :)
-restart cups
-using cups interface (localhost:631) delete your current printer, and
add it again pointing to the modified .ppd file
That should do for now.
Just deleting the line with "Custom" (which I tried before finding the
Arch solution) made the modified .ppd unreadable for Cups.
From the short survey, the problem seems universal - affects at least
HP and Brother machines, at least Debian and Arch. Seems like something
changed with the Cups itself :)
