Hello, There is a ticket on the VLC side that reports a similar issue with VLC on macOS. https://trac.videolan.org/vlc/ticket/20627 I added the reference to this debian bug report on that VLC ticket.
Disabling hardware acceleration in VLC as suggested in that report is the current workaround that fixed the issue for me.
