Hello! I am unable to reproduce this issue. For 10.1 series we have a pretty good pipeline that tests both fresh installs and upgrades. See example at https://salsa.debian.org/mariadb-team/mariadb-10.1/pipelines/45810
You need to provide me exact steps on how to produce a scenario where the upgrade fails so that I can investigate it further. There must be something special about your system. With current information there is nothing I can do, sorry.
